Good governance practices matter. But adopting them is only the start.
The 2026 GPC Best Practices Survey Report explores how boards can turn strong governance foundations into better judgment, stronger capability, and more visible value.
Developed by Governance Professionals of Canada, Watson Board Advisors, and Compensation Governance Partners, the report draws on survey responses from 82 participants and 15 follow-up interviews. The findings point to a positive foundation: boards report high levels of effectiveness, trust, and sound risk judgment. They also reveal opportunities to strengthen constructive challenge, future focus, evaluation, learning, succession, compensation alignment, and the strategic contribution of governance professionals.
At the centre of the report is a practical question: Do your governance practices simply meet the standard, or do they improve the conversations and decisions that matter most?
Explore the findings, practical ideas, and questions boards can use to prepare for what comes next.
