John Irving collaborates with WATSON Inc. providing strategic advice and lending his technical expertise to client work and consulting engagements in the areas of corporate governance, corporate law, negotiations and government. With 20 plus years of “C-suite” executive experience in British Columbia, Ontario and the United Kingdom, John has been the Chief Legal Officer (or equivalent) in public, private and crown corporations in five industries – energy, shipping, food processing, building products and retail.
Most recently, John was the Chief Legal Officer for Powerex Corp and prior to that, Vice President and General Counsel for the BC Transmission Corporation. John has specific expertise in risk management in corporate, public sector and not-for-profit contexts.
A certified director himself, John has significant and varied governance experience in many types of organizations and jurisdictions, both for profit and not-for-profit. He is on the board of an environmental stewardship corporation, a regional mental health charity and from 2011 to 2014 served as a director of Family Services of Greater Vancouver. John holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law from the University of British Columbia.
