Jane Butterfield possesses a rare combination of governance experience; with over 35 years of business experience, Jane has advised boards, reported to boards, and been a board member. Jane is a seasoned governance, risk, and controls specialist, bringing years of experience in the boardroom to WATSON clients.
Over her career, Jane has delivered professional advisory services to a wide range of organizations including public and private companies, public sector entities, co-operatives, not-for-profit organizations and Associations. She has completed numerous governance reviews and Director evaluations and has worked with many clients in the design of governance frameworks tailored to their organization in a manner that has positioned them to derive maximum value from their Board of Directors.
Jane spent much of her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP where she was a partner for over 13 years, leading the B.C. region’s Governance, Risk and Controls practice for over 15 years. Prior to leading this practice unit, she provided external audit and business valuation and litigation support services for clients of varying size and complexity.
Prior to joining WATSON, Jane was the CFO for the British Columbia Immigrant Investment Fund (“BCIIF”), a provincial Crown Corporation, where she oversaw all aspects of financial management, stewardship, and reporting, including monitoring its $90 million investment in Venture Capital funds. During the transition of the organization back into the Ministry of International Trade, Jane was the key management resource, liaising with the Board of Directors and Ministry staff, earning her a reputation as a strong relationship builder from all stakeholders.
Jane is a former Director of Douglas College, where she was Chair of their Audit and Finance Committee, and a member of their Executive and Governance Committee. She is a Past-President and Governor of the Vancouver Chapter of Internal Auditors, and a former Director of the BC & Yukon Division of the Canadian Cancer Society (including Chair of their Finance Committee). Jane is an FCPA FCA, a CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), and an ICD.D.
