Jane Butterfield brings a rare combination of governance experience to WATSON’s clients; with over 30 years experience as a CA, Jane has advised boards, reported to boards and been a board member. Jane is a seasoned risk, and internal controls specialist with expertise in the provision of independent advisory services in the design, implementation, and evaluation of practices that support sound and effective oversight and governance.
Over her career, Jane has delivered professional advisory services to a wide range of organizations including public and private companies, public sector entities, not-for-profit organizations, Associations, and co-operatives. Early in her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers firm Jane led numerous external audit engagements and provided business valuation and litigation support services for clients of varying size and complexity. She spent the last 13 years as partner in the Governance, Risk and Controls practice.
Most recently, Jane was the CFO for the British Columbia Immigrant Investment Fund (“BCIIF”), a provincial Crown Corporation, where she oversaw all aspects of financial management, stewardship, and reporting, including monitoring of its $90 million investment in Venture Capital funds. During the transition of the organization back into the Ministry of International Trade, Jane was the key management resource, liaising with the Board of Directors and Ministry staff, earning her a reputation as a strong relationship builder from all stakeholders.
Jane is a Director of Douglas College and Chair of their Audit and Finance Committee. She is a Past-President and Governor of the Vancouver Chapter of Internal Auditors, and a former Director of the BC & Yukon Division of the Canadian Cancer Society (including Chair of their Finance Committee). Jane is a Chartered Public Accountant (CA), a Certified Internal Auditor, and a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D).
